Hemis National Park



Hemis National Park a beautiful park located in the lap of Himalayan ranges in the high altitude region of Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir.
The park comes under the category of most protected areas of the country. After the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve the park is categorized into the list of largest contiguous protected areas of the country. The park serve as a residence for various endangered animals/mammals like the Snow Leopard. The park lies in the Palearctic ecozone and is the only Park from India in this region.  The park is surrounded by the Indus River at its northern and also by the Sumdah, Markha and Rumbak ranges.

History
The Hemis National Park was established in the year 1981 under the protection acts of Rumbak and Markha catchments with 600 sq km area. The park soon gained an area of 3350 sq km by involving the nearby lands into it in year 1988. But the park still didn’t stop and year 1990 it overtook an area of 4400 sq km and today is the largest national park of South Asia.
the park serves as the residence for Tibetan refugees and some holy Chortens living nearby a Monastery which is about 400 years old. The Tibetan refugees invaded this place in the golden era of our country. The park accommodates a total of 1,600 people today including the tourists and pilgrims who visit the state for the Hemis Tsechu festival.  The forest is filled with alpine vegetation due to the alpine steppe ecoregion.
Best Time To Visit
The most suitable time to visit the park is in the months of may up to October, as it is well suited for the purpose of trekking and nature walk. One who wishes to sight the snow leopard can visit the place in the winter season as it is open throughout the year and is the time for the snow leopard to migrate to lower valleys.

How To Get There
By Road: Hemis National the Park is situated near to Leh city which is 30km from the park and 434 and 230 km from Srinagar and Kargil respectively. The leh-srinagar highway opened from may 15th to November 15th is the best option to visit the place via road
By Rail: Jammu railway station is the closest of all to the park and is distanced 690km away.
By Air: Leh airport is the most nearby airport to the park. The airport has a well build network with the other cities like the Delhi, Chandigarh etc.

The biggest drawback of the park is its no accommodation facility but still this loop hole os filled in by the luxurious beautiful hotels in the nearby areas or the cities. Don’t worry about the cheques there all kind of hotels to support every man’s pocket.
Some of the luxurious hotels of the city are Hotel Dragon, Hotel Royal Palace etc. whereas some of the hotels to suit everyone’s pocket are New Moon Guest House, Hotel Namgyal Palace etc

The climatic condition of the city shows both very high peeks that is the place is very coldcolder coldest of all. The Temp of the city ranges from -40 c to 20 degree Celsius. And the altitudes of rainfall are 160.5 cm. the city is placed at an altitude of 3,500 to 6,930 m
