The enticing park is situated around 27 kilometers from headquarter of Bastar, Jagdalpur on the banks of River Kholaba. It is Scattered around an area of 200 sq km approximately having mostly the terrains of hills. The name of the Park is derived from the River Kanger flowing all the way through it.

The situation of the National Park is in the following geographical coordinations:

Latitude: 18° 45' 00" N to 18° 56' 30" N

Longitude: 81° 51' 30" E to 82° 10' 00" E

The National Park’s complete area is about 200.00 km2. There is a Valley approximately 33.5 km long and approx 6 km wide on average that starts from Tirathgarh waterfalls extends upto the boundary of the state Orissa’s, River Kolab.

Leopards, Wild Boar, Tigers, Wild Cat,  Mouse Deer, Chital, Rabbits, Snakes Barking Deer, Langurs, Sloth Bear, Sambar, Jackals, Rhesus Macaque, Flying Squirrel, Striped Hyena, Monitor Lizards Pythons, , Crocodiles and Cobra are the few names of Kanger Valley NationalPark’s main Wildlife. Spotted Owlet, Hill Myna, Heron, Racket-tailed Drongos, Red Jungle Fowls, Parrots, Peacocks, Red Spur Fall, Steppe Eagles, Bhura Teeter, Phakta and Tree Pie include the National Parks’s bird life.

Some tributaries make up marshy area because of the natural seeping of the land in starting of dry season. Kyamnallah, EktaJhodi, Rajamunda, KomkelJhodi, KaranjiJhodi, PunjiJhodi make up good amount of marshy areas that are comfortable homes of sloth bear and wild boar. Barking dear, Panther & Chital are mostly catched in such marshy land. KariyaAmanallah is permanent belt of marshy area and therefore is an perfect home of sloth bear, tiger, wild boar, leopard & chital.

History

Sometimes also called as the Kanger Valley National Park. In the year 1982, Indian government stated it as a National Park.

It is one of the different Preserved Areas in India, famous for its Biodiversity with the beautiful landscape scenery, magnificent waterfalls, habitat for Hill myna, the bird-Bastar and Chhattisgarh’s state bird, well-known caves of the limestones geomorphologic subterranean, the Kanger Valley National Park nearby the city of Jagdalpur, in the Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region is among the most densest and most mesmerizing National Park.

Kanger Valley National Park is situated amid the picturesque Kanger Valley which is 34 km in length, one of the most appealing and scenic national parks and Biosphere Reserve of the country.The enticing park is situated around 27 kilometers from headquarter of Bastar, Jagdalpur on the banks of River Kholaba. This National Park is noteworthy of its amazingly distinct formations of land that ranges from the absolute ground level and calm areas to excessive plateaus, slopes, stream and valleys courses. The widely waving topography of the Kanger Valley shelters various habitats that gives a perfect vision for various types of fauna and flora, therefore highlighting the Biodiversity of India’s Central Region .

Best Time To Visit

November - June is the most favourable time to see this place.

The opening time of the park is 8 am in the morning and closing time is 4 pm in the evening and the entry into the park is allowed all through the week. If one comes early in the morning the one can better see the places such as Kailash Cave, BhainsaDarha and  Kutumsar Cave whereas Tirathgarh Falls  can be seen in the evening. Rs 150 are the Four-Wheeler charges and Rs. 50  are the bike charges for entry. From September  starts the perfect time to see this place. BhainsaDarha lake and a number of caves are closed at the time of rainy season.

How To Get There

The park is easily reachable from the Jagdalpur which is the district head quarters of the city of Baster. The park is around 27 kilometers far from Jagdalpur on the road of Jagdalpur - Konta. One can also reach  Kanger Valley by the road of Jagdalpur to Sargipal to Jatam to Nianar and Nianar to Bodal. From the National Park, Jagdalpur which is 27 km far is the closest railway station and bus stop and the closest airport is Raipur which is 330 km far.

Things To Do In - National Park

Tirathgarh Falls , here water falls from 100m height although the 3 cascade sets is around 4 km from the entrance of the park. These are best seen post monsoon while are open all through the year. There are 3 caves that have prestigious virgin formations that are worth seeing.

Boars, leopards, deer and sloths include the wildlife. There is a BhaimsaDarha which is a sizeable lake and is home of crocodiles and turtles.
