Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park


Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park is situated in Vanasthalipuram, on the outer edge of city of Hyderabad at around fifteen km distance on the Hyderabad- Vijayawada street. Formerly the Nizam's (previous Hyderabadi rulers) hunting areas, it is currently habitat to the gorgeous black bucks having spiral horns together with various bird species.

Named after famous Jain saint 'Lord Mahavira', the park was recognized in 1975, in 2500th birth centenary memorial of Lord Mahavira. The deer park preserved by the Forest Department consists of a rolling terrain, of one hundred and eighty nine hectares subjugated by acacia trees & grasslands. In the monsoon the park appears charming having golden & white blossoms of above mentioned trees on the abundant green grass carpet. Further Acacias, neem, Bauhinias, Buteas (Forest Flame) & several of prickly scrub classes are available in this arid cleanse forest.
The main class of fauna available here is the scarce Black Buck and it is Andhra Pradesh’sstate animal. More than 400 black bucks are there (Amtelope Cervicapara), approximately 500 Cheetals & huge groups of wild hog. Regular animals found are monitor lizards, mongooses, porcupines also a diversity of snakes. Many classes of birds such as Partridges, Quails, peacocks, Doves, pond herons, egrets, kingfishers, cormorants & birds of prey resembling kites, vultures and so on are seen here. A diversity of traveling birds of more than eighty classes may also be found during full year. One rarer species Short-toed Eagle is also found here nesting.
Rest sheds & surveillance towers are there for seeing the animals within the park. Van ride facilities are available within the park to view the animals from near quarters and it costs an insignificant fee. Except Monday, park is open each day of the week from morning 9 to 5 in the evening.
The forest Department provides audio-visual teaching on environment & wildlife & is maintained by a high-quality scenery library. A display hall showing exhibits elucidation complicated troubles of wildlife protection is also there.
The safari journeys are available between mornings 9.30 to evening 5.30. Charges of entry inside Vanasthali in departmental van or small bus are five Rs for every adult & three Rs for every child.

History
Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park was previously the preferred hunting land of the Nizam, which were the previous rulers of Hyderabad. Following a deer park was recognized in this spot with the plan of protect this inheritance.
In 1975, Park is named on the name of a Jain saint, Lord Mahavir in memorial of his 2500th birth centenary. In identical year this park was recognized. This park is an abundance of several wild animals & traveling birds, and is currently Andhra Pradesh Forest Department maintains it. .

During any period of the year one may come to Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park. Except Monday Park is opened on all days of the week. Morning 9 to evening 5.30 are visiting times.

Things To Do In - National Park
The Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park is famous for the scarce deer named Black Buck that had occupied the Indian grasslands in the history. Black bucks are having spiral horns and have constantly continued to be the major drawer. Currently over four hundred black bucks are there in the park.
One can found over five hundred cheetahs varying from dim brown to black at Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park. Further to these, cormorants, monitor lizards, mongooses & porcupines as well have their residence at Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park.
Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park as well consists of thirty classes of reptiles & more than 120 bird species. Birds such as peacocks, doves, egrets, cormorants, partridges, quails, kites, short-toed eagles & vultures too may e seen here nesting.
The plants of this park have arid deciduous jungle that is assorted with grasslands & cleansejungles. One may see trees such as Palas, Teak, Sandalwood, Amalthas, Rosewood, Acacias, and so on.

Weather
Summer Season: Usually, the summer period carries on from April month to July month. During this period temperature fluctuates between 25deg C & 40 deg C. At few occasion temperature goes as high as 48 deg C in May month.
Winter Season: Usually the winter period carries on from November mid to February month. During this period temperature fluctuates between 13 deg C & 20 deg C.
Monsoon Season: Usually the monsoon period carries on from July month to September month. During this period, climate stays hot & humid, although the cooler evenings & mornings are there because of the fair height of the park. The nominal yearly city rainfall is approximately 80 cm.
