Mrugavani National Park


The park named Mrugavani National Park is Hyderabad’s national park. It is situated in Moinabad mandal at Chilkur at a distance of 25 kms away from Hyderabad and is spread over an area of 9.1 km2 which is 3.5 sq miles. It has many kinds of plant which amount to about 600 plants. The animals which are found here are forest cat, Indian hare, civet, Russell’s viper, Indian rat snake, flower pecker and cheetal.

The park is situated at 17°21'27.79"N 78°20'26.91"E and is nearby to the Police Academy of Andhra Pradesh which is nearby to Hyderabad in Moinabad Mandal city area is 3.60 km2.
The park’s topography which is undulating has exposures which is rocky of the formation trap of Deccan and the tropical dry vegetation which is dry forest and deciduous and is of nature which is degraded and is dispersed with grasslands and woodlands. More than 600 species of land including shrubs, herbs, climbers & trees like Rosewood, Neem, Teak, Bamboo, Sandalwood etc are found in this place.
The fauna’s that are found there are jackals, porcupines, foxes and wild boar, Forest Cat, Black naped Hare, Mongoose, Civet Cat, Spotted deer, Sambar or Cheetal etc and many different kind of reptiles which includes Snakes, Rat Snakes, Monitor Lizard and Pythons etc. Species of birds as many as more than 100 are found in this park which includes Quails, Peacocks, Warblers, Quails, Partridges, Flower Peckers, Ducks, Partridges, Curlews and Lapwings.

History
Mrugavani National park covers an area of about 700 acres / 3.60 sq kms and was set up in the year 1994 in the month of October, near the Lake Himayatsagar which is 25kms at a distance from Hyderabad.
The plants of the park is of tropical waterless deciduous forest of degraded nature.The Mrigavani National Park harbors over 600 plant kind ranging from bryophytes, Pteridophytes, Herbs, Shrubs, Climbers and Trees. The vegetative cover presents a mosaic of woodland and grasslands. Prominent trees are Teak, Rosewood, Sandalwood, Neem, Bamboo, etc.
The park’s plants are of tropical waterless of the degraded nature of the deciduous forest. The National Park Mrigavani has more than 600 kinds of plants which ranges from Pteridophytes, bryophytes, Shrubs, Herbs, Trees and Climbers. Grassland and woodland mosaic is presented by the vegetative cover. Rosewood, Neem, Sandalwood, Bamboo, Teak are the prominent trees.
20 more types include Warblers, Flower Peckers, Lapwings, Curlew, Peacock, Babblers, Partridges, Ducks and Quails.
100+ species of worms and insects and 20+ species of the butterflies.
The climate here is pleasant most of the time. There is a point in the park which is at a height for high point views and there is also a watch tower so as to watch animals closely. For the entertainment of the tourist snake shows are held. There is also a library an Education center in regards to the Environment a museum and auditorium which exhibits wildlife.
Uniqueness: An urban Eco forest system which is unique in supporting huge ungulates such as Sambar, Wild Boars, Cheetal etc. provides the tourist with a real experience of wild life.
Flora: They are dry deciduous forest in the Southern tropical. The undulating topography shows the rocky side of the formation of the Deccan trap. This park has the last remains of Hyderabad’s endemic flora having species like Bamboo, Teak, Palas, Rela, Sandal and Picus.
Fauna: A refuge in an urban way for the huge ungulates such as the Cheetal, Panther, Wild Boar, Sambar, Civet, Jungle Cat, Monitor Lizard, Mongoose, Russell’s Viper, Python, Grey Partridge, Cobra, Butterflies and Quail.

The park has a well stocked library, education center of Environment with an auditorium and museum with reveals the wildlife.
