Rani Jhansi Marine National Park


The exquisite Rani Jhansi Marine National Park is situated in the chief island group of the Andaman Island i.e. RitchieArchipelago; indeed an ecotourism centre of the Andaman district. Declared as a National park in the year 1996, the park is spread over an area of 256 sq.km. The park encompasses a trio of islands namely Outram Island,Henry Lawrence Island and John Lawrence Island. Established at distance of 40km from Baratang Island,the park provides shelter to some very crucial wildlife and habitats which include Dugongs, Crocodiles, Marine Life, Coral Reefs, Mangroves, Terrestrial Moist forest and birds. A notable number of fruit eating bats species explicit their significance as seed dispersers and pollinators.The park can be easily reached from Port Blair.

How To Get There
By Air
The only airport in the Andaman and Nicobar Island is Port Blair, connected with Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai. It is almost a 2hr journey and Jet Airways and Kingfisher are the only operators.
Via Sea
Frequent ship services are available for the passengers travelling to Port Blair from Vishakhapatnam, Kolkata, Chennai and back. Every month there are about three to four sailings from Kolkata and Chennai to Port Blair and back, whereas Vishakhapatnam entertains only one sailing in a month. The journey takes about 50 to 60 hours and for two to four days the ship harbours at Port Blair.
Things To Do In The Park
The central attraction of the Park is the fruit eating bat species, acting as seed dispersers and pollinators. The encompassing Islands like Outram Island, Henry Lawrence Island and John Lawrence Island are a must visit. The park is canopied by Mangroves along the beach sides. The park is also famous for crocodiles and dugongs. The Park alsoprovides an insight into the avifauna, marine life and coral reefs.
