Tripura Tourism
Even though Tripura falls under the category of smaller states, it boasts of many tourist attractions in form of beautiful magnificent palaces constructed by maharajas like the Ujjayanta Palace, Kunjaban Palace, exquisite rock-cut carvings and stone images the most well known being the Unakoti and Debatamura and famous temples such as Mata Tripureswari Temple, Fourteen Goddess Temple. Also Tripura is renowned for its lakes, wild life sanctuaries and hill ranges. The realm of Tripura can be split into four districts – Dhalai District, North Tripura District, South Tripura District and West Tripura District. Dhalai DistrictThis is the youngest district of Tripura. More than half of it is hilly and covered with forests. This district is characterized by scenic forests, incredible natural beauty and remarkable hill ranges. This district is rich in natural resources. The very famous Longtharai Mandir is located at the Dhalai district. This temple is known for its natural beauty and is also a place of devotion to thousands of people. Another famous temple in this district is the Kamaleswari temple. The major hill tracks here are Atharamura, Longtharai and Sakhantang. The major are rivers Manu, Dhalai and Khowai. North Tripura DistrictThe major places of attraction in the northern district of Tripura are Jampui hill Unakoti Laxmi-Narayan Temple Sateramia Hawar at Kailashahar Purano Rajbari. The two hills range Jampui and sakan runs almost parallel to each other in the district. In the Jampui range lies the highest point of the state, "Betling Chip" which is 939 meters high. The main rivers are Longai and Juri. At Unakuti, rock carvings and temples back from the 8th century are seen. South Tripura districtThe south Tripura district consists of attractive hill ranges and pretty rivers. Dumbur which is located at Amarpur of the southern district is a renowned spot for tourists as well as a pilgrimage place for believers. The Dumbur Lake is celebrated for its charming beauty. The eminent temples present in the southern district are the Tripura Sundari Temple Bhuvaneswari Temple. Deotamura is infamous for its range of hills, called ‘the peak of god’. Antiques dating back from the 8th and 9th century can be seen at Pilak. Western Tripura districtThe district headquarters of the western district is located at Agartala, which is also the capital of the State. Agartala is a very well known area of Tripura and a favorite among history buffs. The Ujjayanta Palace, mentioned earlier in 1901 A.D. is a popular historical monument. Kunjaban Palace is another eminent palace located just a few kilometers from the Ujjayanta Palace. Malancha Niwas is a favorite hot spot for tourists as it was just a mud build house back in 1919 A.D and was where the poet Tagore stayed. Old Agartala or the fourteen goddess temple is still a familiar place among tourists as well as pilgrims. Shipahijala is a wild life sanctuary located here known for its picturesque landscape. Twijlikma is a well known lake in the Melaghar area. |
